Wind Power
America's Wind Power Port

The "winds of change" have created a growth opportunity for the Port of Corpus Christi in recent years. Wind power production has become the greatest growth segment of renewable energy in the country. Texas, as the no. 1 wind energy production state in the nation is establishing renewable electricity standards that are driving increased demand for wind turbines. Federal production tax credits for wind projects have created a favorable investment climate for large wind farm developments in Corpus Christi's neighboring counties, components of which continue to move via Port of Corpus Christi.

Large public wharves; spacious, well-lighted, paved, open storage areas; and Foreign Trade Zone benefits make the Port attractive to turbine importers. Excellent transportation links with nearby I-37 and rail capability at each storage facility speed the clearance of components to project sites. Cargo discharged on the Northside of the Inner Harbor provides easy, convenient access to the Joe Fulton International Trade Corridor facilitating excellent connectivity to I-37. These strengths, along with our competitive pricing and superior customer service, have attracted a steady stream of wind turbine shippers to the port. The Port of Corpus Christ continues to facilitate the movements of the largest number of wind turbine manufacturers than any other Texas port.

Serving the industry not only as a shipping hub for wind turbines, the Port is also looking at the potential of harnessing South Texas winds at Port owned sites to generate clean electrical power for the local community. The Harbor Wind Farm on the Northside of the Inner Harbor along Nueces Bay is currently under development. When completed in early 2012, the $20M Harbor Wind will consist of six 1.5 MW turbines and will be the first wind farm located on industrial port property in North America.

The Port of Corpus Christi proudly continues to be an influential participant in the future of clean energy solutions for South Texas and the nation.
