Who is responsible for purchasing?
The purchasing decision for Port products and services is dependent on the amount of the transaction and what type of purchase it is. Each department has the ability to make a purchase up to $25,000 without Port Commission involvement. While department purchasing representatives may purchase up to $25,000, there are quote requirements that must be adhered to depending on the amount and type of product or service. Please see Port Purchasing Guidelines.

What is the certification criteria?
The Port of Corpus Christi is a strong proponent of supporting small, women, and minority owned businesses. In the effort to advance diversity, the Port of Corpus Christi welcomes various certifications that are available on a local, regional, state, or federal level.

Companies who have these certifications (please see certification classifications) prior to doing business with the port, may have an opportunity to receive additional assistance in identifying opportunities and being notified through a joint partnership program with the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Can any company submit a bid?
Normally, any company can bid on a project or request for proposal, however, the company may need to meet certain insurance and bonding requirements for projects that warrant such coverage.

Do we need to be bonded and insured?
Depending on the type of project and the amount, the Port of Corpus Christi may require a bid, performance, and/or payment bond. In addition, certain minimum levels of insurances coverage are required to bid on a project.

What factors play into the decision for awarding a contract?
The Port of Corpus Christi awards contracts to the responsive bidder offering the lowest and best bid.

Where do we pick up actual specifications ?
You may be able to acquire bid plans and specifications from the department requesting the bid proposal. Usually, bid plans and specifications are provided through the department of Engineering for capital and maintenance projects.

What is the average timeframe on notifying the public for a bid request?
Two weeks is the normal timeframe for notice. Under emergency situations, the typical timeline may be disregarded.
